A | Tel Aviv, Oct 11 (UNI) Israel has reached a historic agreement on maritime border demarcation with Lebanon, Prime Minister Yair Lapid said on Tuesday.
"This is a historic achievement that will bolster Israel's security, bring billions into the Israeli economy and bring stability to the northern border," Lapid said in a statement, as quoted by his office, adding that the deal will be submitted to the government for approval soon.
The office specified that the draft agreement "meets all the security and economic principles laid out by Israel" and it would be submitted for approval to the Security Cabinet and the government on Wednesday.
Lapid’s office specified that intensive negotiations through US mediator Amos Hochstein between Lebanon and the Israeli negotiating team led by National Security Council head Eyal Hulata took place over the weekend and the Sukkot holiday.
At the same time, Lebanon is also content with the agreement, as all of its demands have been taken into account, according to the office of Lebanese President Michel Aoun.
The negotiations on the demarcation of land and maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel have been taking place in Naqoura since 1996 on the basis of the memorandum of understanding under the UN auspices and the US mediation. In June 2022, Israel urged the Lebanese authorities to speed up the talks. It called the Karish gas field its strategic asset and assured Lebanon of the absence of plans to produce gas in the disputed territory.

(재판매 및 DB금지)/뉴스1(원주=뉴스1) 신관호 기자 = 강원 원주시가 역점 추진해 온 국도 42호선 문막~흥업 도로건설 사업에 청신호가 켜졌다.26일 시에 따르면 국도 42호선 문막~흥업 도로건설 사업이 이날 기획예산처 재정사업평가위원회 심의를 통과하며 제6차 국도·국지도 건설계획(2026~2030)에 반영됐다. 국도 42호선은 인천 중구와 강원 동해시를 잇는 도로다.이중 문막~흥업 도로건설은 약 752억 원의 사업비를 들여 문막읍 건등리 건등사거리~흥업면 사제리 광터사거리 약 4.7㎞ 구간을 기존 4차로에서 6차로로 넓히는 것이다.시는 사업이 정부 건설계획에 반영됨에 따라 원주 서부권 상습 교통정체 문제를 해소할 수 있을 것으로 보고 있다,특히 시는 해당 사업 완료 시 광주원주고속도로와 영동고속도로 등으로 연결되는 원주 관문 구간의 상습적인 교통정체를 완화하고, 원주기업도시와 문막산업단지를 오가는 물류 여건도 개선될 수 있다고 분석하고 있다, 아울러 시는 이 사업을 통해 원주 도심과 서부권의 관광·산업자원 간 접근성도 향상시킬 수 있는 등 지역경제에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 것으로 전망하고 있다.구자열 원주시장은 "문막~흥업 구간은 원주 서부권의 교통난을 해소하고 지역 간 접근성을 높이기 위해 필요한 사업"이라며 "이번 국가계획 반영을 계기로 예산 확보 등 후속 절차가 차질 없이 진행될 수 있도록 관계기관과 긴밀히 협력하겠다"고 말했다.한편 시는 강원혁신도시와 원주기업도시를 연결하는 흥업~지정 국도대체우회도로 사업의 경우 이번 계획에 포함되지 않았다고 밝혔다. 시는 이 같은 미반영 노선에 대해서도 후속 대응을 이어갈 방침이라고 설명했다.。
